Introducing PhD candidate Aire Valiente

Aire Valiente started her PhD in October 2026 at Erasmus University Rotterdam as part of the Cognitive Control team. Her reserach focuses on the effectiveness of network-informed treatment for addiction and comorbid personality psychopathology.

Aire Valiente

Aire graduated with a bachelor's degree and research master's degree from the University of Amsterdam and a clinical psychology master's from Leiden University. During her research master's she published the Internalization and Externalization Inventory (IEI) which conceptualizes internalization and externalization as temperamental tendencies to deal with stressors, rather than clusters of psychopathological symptoms alone.

Her research master's thesis focused on how early maladaptive schemas and temperamental tendencies shape schema modes. Moreover, she recently submitted a paper on the role of self-compassion in the relationship between early maladaptive schemas and anger in a forensic sample.

During her PhD, Aire aims to investigate the effectiveness of network-informed treatment compared to guideline-informed treatment in individuals with comorbid personality pathology. She will make use of Single-Case Experimental Designs and Ecological Momentary Assessment data. Her supervisory team consists of Janna Cousijn, Reinout Wiers, and Michiel Boog.
